Artiss Agnes

Mike Fisher

Billesley Boy
Hi All

Can anyone shed any light on Miss Agnes Artiss who appears in Kelly's 1913 at 186 Edward Rd Balsall Heath as a dress maker and is still there in 1921 as a furniture dealer but has disappeared by 1933.
I can find no birth, marriage, death or census entry for her.

My late mother was Margaret Artiss of 55 Hope St and I feel she mentioned something about a shop in Edward Rd

Re: Miss Agnes Artiss

Hi Mike,On the Electoral Role for 1920,186 Edward Rd is occupied by an Agnes ELIZA Artiss, and a George Goodyear.
On the 1911 census at 55 Hope St there is an Ernest Joseph Artiss and ELIZA Artiss (wife) and daughter Lilian May.
In the 1911 census 186 Edward Road was offices belonging to (I think it says) Crownlock Shirt Company and 188 and 190 were Pinafore Works belonging to the same company.
On the 1912 electoral role there is a Joseph Henry Artiss as occupier of 186 Edward Road, with an additional address of 155 Knowle Road
1911 census
ARTISS, Joseph Henry aged 41 born 1870 Warwickshire Birmingham, Traveller Gas Fittings
