Hi everyone, me again.

I'm ripping out what little hair i have left trying to find my great grandfather's youngest brother.
With help from some lovely people on here I've managed to find most of his relatives that have evaded me for years.
I'm down to the last one now and its proving a real tough nut to crack.

Arthur Smith was born on 7 January 1890 (Birmingham 6d 149) to Charles and Hannah Smith (nee Blyth(e) of 5 house 28 court Hospital Street.
All of his brothers and sisters married people from and settled down within Hockley with the exception of two brothers that settled in Aston.
I have Arthur in census info in 1891 aged 1 (RG12/2387) and in 1901 aged 11 (RG13/2841) then he seems to disappear.

There are several contenders for marriages but each time i follow them up they appear to have initials or the birth year is way off.

Could some kind soul cast their eyes over the Arthur Smiths born in Birmingham in1890 and see what happened to him please, I'm quite keen to see if he was killed in the war as there is a family story that my great grandfather lost 5 brothers and his mother during world war one. It could be that Arthur's records are amongst the 'burnt records' So far I have two brothers who died as civilians during the war and two as soldiers, if we find Arthur died in the war this would confirm the family story.

Any help would be gratefully received, thanks
 
Unfortunately, there's no way to be sure what happened to him as far as I can see.

The last certain sight of him is on the 1901 census with his mother and siblings. After this it's just guesswork. On the 1911 census there are 3 possibilities, two of which are in the army (in India or Isle of Wight).

Which means not only could his death be reg. in Bham but much further afield. If he did make it to WWI and his records didn't survive, then unless there is a memorial that lists his parents (which I don't think there is) it will be another dead end.

There are 2 Arthur Smiths on the 1939 Register who give their birth as 7 Jan 1890 but if either is him no way to know and with such a common name probably unlikely.

It might be one of those relatives you can never resolve. Sadly we all have them.

hi mark that is more or less what i found out the 2 with the same date of birth not living in birmingham...as you said with no concrete evidence this may remain one of those family mysteries as you say most of us have them

just wondering if we checked out the marriages of the 2 arthur smiths that are on the 39 register..if their marr certs are available on ancestry they would tell us the name of the grooms father...just a thought
