Anyone remember Geoffrey Paddison

Bernard67Arnold

master brummie
He was born in Birmingham 1925 and died in London 1972, Perhaps if I said his stage name was David Hughes you may remember? I was looking
throught some CDs when I came across"The best of David Hughes" and on
hearing his voice again after all this years bought it all back. I seem to
remember my dad saying he worked for a while in the booking office at Moor Street station. Having made it as a pop artist he then went into opera
his favourite medium, and sadley died of a heart attack after playing in
Madam Butterfly, he left a wife and three children. Someone surely most
have some memories of him. Bernard 67 Arnold

Hi Bernard: I have a recollection of my parents having a record of his
many years ago.Mom and I used to watch "The Passing Show" and he was often appearing on that programme. So sad that he didn't live longer. Wikipedia has a page for him at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hughes_(tenor) His own website
is at:https://www.gmmy.com/tenors/hughes.htm for those who would like to read about this great singer and a great Brummie.
You can find him on You Tube singing one of my favourite songs "Scarlet Ribbons" and another lovely rendition of "Silent Worship" by Handel.

Hi Bernard,

Yes I certainly remember Geoff Paddison. In fact I served with him in the ATC - 2030(Yardley) Squadron.. If you check my thread 'Who is this' you will see a photo of the football team of which Geoff was captain He was a very good singer in those days and, in retrospect, it was obvious that, if he put his mind to it. he could make a career of it He did work for the railway and he went to school at Sparkhill Commercial.

Geoff was born in 1925, not 1929, despite the majority of websites saying otherwise. The best site is The David Hughes website which was under the control of his sister Mary, I am not sure that she is still with us however.
