Anyone know what make this car is?

motorman-mike

Brum visitor who stayed.
Is there any car buff out there that can tell me the make of this car please? If you could date it approximately as well for a rough idea of when this photo was taken that would be welcome as well. My interest is that my Great Grandpa is the driver.

It's an Armstrong-Siddeley, mike, probably the 30 HP chassis.
If that registration is HP 1709, that would date it as 1921-2, Coventry registered.

Was that the car with the sphinx on the bonnet ?

Ernie,

This one?

Thank you all for the information. With a Coventry registration Lloyd, the car may have been secondhand by the time it worked in Bath where the photo was taken. My Mum recalls that Grandpa (sorry, I thought it was Great Grandpa, but as he died in his 40's between the Wars I didn't know him) drove for a Bath company that hired out such cars with drivers to gentry "taking the Spa waters" and also for private extended tours afar afield as Scotland which must have been pretty expensive even in the 1920's. She dosen't remember who the firm were or where the cars were kept and because he was my Dad's Father she only knows odd things off my Dad before he too died (in the Second War). As so often now, I wish I had asked more questions when my Grandparents were still around as at her age now (88) my Mum is a bit hazey about the early days of hers and my Dad's parents.

My first car was an Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 346, with the rare manual gearbox. It was originally green and cream but I painted it JCB yellow......well, I was a plant fitter in those days and yellow paint was in abundance.
I painted on whitewall tyres and had Gasoline Queen signwritten on each side of the bonnet. A set of Rolls Royce hubcaps and rear bumper badge had many people thinking I was rich....it only cost me £10 as the previous owner couldn't get it going....there was a loose connection to the fuel reserve switch in the boot:)
Eventually it needed a new clutch and I was delighted to find that the pressure plate from a Thwaites 3-ton dumper, the clutch cover from a Commer Walk-through van and a release bearing from a Thwaites 2-ton dumper all fitted and worked perfectly.
When I finally sold it for spares and bought a Mk11 Jaguar 3.8 saloon it took me ages to get used to the fact that entire bus-queues were no longer swivelling their necks to watch me go by!

The location is The Colonade in Stall Street leading to the Abbey Churchyard in my home town of Bath. My Great Grandpa was a Hire Car Chauffeur for the well healed folks who could afford such things, more than likely the bloke in the top hat when the photo was taken. I must have got the driving bug from Great Grandpa - I ended up as a bus driver! :D

maybe that would explain why you are so informative and there were some nice bus drivers me mom told me she was a conductress back in the days:) as I have stated elsewhere it amazes me how well informed some people are on different subjects on this forum are keep it up and thanks:)
