I thought at first these entries from Birmingham directories would be of interest. Turns out they are not Italian , (at least back to 1833).
1888-1892 Thew Elizabeth (Mrs.), shopkeeper, Holborn hill, Nechells
Not listed in 1887 or 1895.
The 1891 census lists her as a widow (66) shopkeeper , with a son (31) edge tool maker, and she was born in Birmingham
In 1881 she is still a widow, but living in 1 Lorne terrace, Argyle St
In 1871 she is with her husband George (38) at 12 water st, but both are born in birmingham
Do you think some possibly changed to “Tew”, of which there are some.
