Another needless pub name change.

motorman-mike

Brum visitor who stayed.
After all the years as the Kings Arms at Alcester Lanes End (known to many as 'the nob') the whizz kids have renamed it "The Crown" as a Sizzling pub. Meanwhile down at Stirchley the Dogpool Hotel after a couple of other name changes is now "The Dogpool".:confused2:

The changing of pub names really annoys me! Some Inns/Hostelries/Pubs have had these names for hundreds of years.

I bet there are a number of members of this Forum who would now exactly where you were referring to on the outer circle route just by the name of the Pub.

You might get on the Number 11 and say, Fox and Goose, Farcroft, Hare and Hounds. I am sure others can add many more.

In fact I believe all directions were given with reference to a Pub name, or am getting old!

All the best Peter

Peter, The Swan Inn at the junction of the Coventry Rd/Church Rd/Yardley Rd was demolished in 1966, the Traffic Roundabout & Underpass and the whole area is still known as "The Swan". Len.

Did the Swan not have the longest bar in Europe? Glad to hear that the area is still known as the Swan.

Round my old neck of the woods the Witton Arms was renamed "The Cap and Gown" (may still be). I wonder how many working class people form the area could afford to send their kids to get a cap and gown!

Here in Brighton, my local for the past 18 years funnily enough also called the Kings Arms is now going to be called Barrafinos, the new owners surname is Barr.

hi john..i would imagne that you locals will always call it the kings arms...names of pubs stick even if they are changed...

thing is john..if and when the new owners leave it will most likely have yet another name change...

The brewers and brewery industry have never cared about their customers. Did they fight the smolking ban...no, did they rush to install fizzy beer and lager because it was sterile and din'nt need so much looking after?
