Another Mystery part 2?

Thanks Wendy and Mike for all extra info. I checked a website "Lost Pubs of Tamworth," and on the link for "Red Lion Lichfield Street" it says, tantalisingly, "details on this pub to follow." 23 Lichfield Street probably sounds the likeliest, for the one in Hopwas seemed to be run by the Gadesby family. In the 1841 and 1851 John Dutton is described as "victualler," which originally made me think he was also a grocer/general dealer of sorts - but the 1861 census describes the widowed Ann Dutton as a "retired publican," so they were definitely proprietors of a pub. I will keep tabs on the thread, and now wish I lived in Tamworth so I could investigate in the field!

Julian I am happy to go out with my camera just give me a shout. Sadly the area where no 23 was is all fairly new. So much of Tamworth was knocked down in the 60's. The local historian John Harper may be able to help with your quest. I have found a record of a Red Lion on Lichfield Street but no other info.

No number given for the moat house, just a name (at the time it was occupied by a john woody, J.P. Unfortunately the tamworth directory does not have a list by street, only by name

I have quite a few photos of old Tamworth, the only pubs I can find are the Jolly Button Turner inn, and the White Lion, but will keep on looking.
 
Wendy this is a fantastic result - another grave at Key Hill reunited with a relative!:)

Julian - welcome to the forum - I can imagine how pleased and surprised you were to find a picture of your 3x Gt grandfathers grave on here. As you can see we have people on this forum who are willing to help in anyway they can. Good luck with your research.

Thanks Mike I did find my bearings and sadly it was in the part of Lichfield Street that was demolished.

Bit late, but in the 1881 census , the Moat House is not numbered, but is between nos 29 & 30
