Another landmark gone

The Chester Arms or as I have always still called it The Timberley on the corner of Hurst Lane/Chester Rd, Castle bromwich is now closed and is being turned into an O.A.Ps home.

It was a truly a land mark ;but sadly for many years i can remember it was a troblesome pub beleive me ;
it became what we call in the trade a chequered history pub.

Hi Terry,

The Timberley (Chester Arms) was demolished at
the beginning of this week, so was obviously not
suitable for conversion. There's a rumour that a
McDonald's is being built there, - let's hope it's just
that! The high fencing which now surrounds the
site doesn't mention its new owner.

Not that I know of Jean. The only place I knew of was off the Coventry Rd, Hay Mills.

Oh I must have the wrong pub Terry. I am thinking of the one close to Stechford. Jean.

Hi Jean,

Are you thinking of the Bull's head at Stechford,
later the Manor House.

If you went up Station Road from the Fairground,
you crossed the River Cole bridge, and the entrance
to the overwintering site was just after the bridge, then
the pub.

Back in the 1950's/60's it was an Atkinson house.

The Timberley was at the junction of Hurst Lane North
and Chester Road in Castle Bromwich.
