The former Angel Inn is now an Asian buffet restaurant called Manjaros. Before that it was Ismails a Steak House.

Kieron, Never been inside the pub. Strangely , going away from city centre the next pub on the same side of the road is the Saracens head in Shirley.

I hope you still access this account. I would love to learn more about the Angel in the 60s to help me learn about my grandfather. My dad ran this pub in 1967,it was next door to the laundry at the time and I went Ladypool Rd junior school next door. Its customers were mainly Irish and travlers , it still had the dumb waiter working.
The Buffalo's had a meeting room on the 1st floor. And a club room down stairs at the rear called the padded cell. IN 1969 when M &B had some floors replaced my dad found gold sovereigns and half soverins under the floors.
I'm trying to find out anything I can about my grandfather who lived around the corner on Ladypool Road in the 50s/60s.Living just around the corner from the Angel it was the local for some of my family, myself I never rated it or the Vic that Morturn has mentioned at the bottom of Long Street. I only ever used it once in the early 60's on a very hot summers day when working across the road we popped in there for a liquid lunch.
