Allport Family

judith allport

master brummie
Albert James William Allport emigrated from UK to Canada in 1904. I dont know his exact dob or death but he was born c 1879. He married Fannie Louisa Arrowsmith in 1910 in Canada. I don't know when or where she died but she was born c 1877 in England. Any help gratefully appreciated.

Gladys Elizabeth Kinman married Leonard George Allport in 1949. I cannot find any children from this union. Gladys was born 1925 and Leonard in 1922. They lived in Birmingham.:frown:

Leonard G and Gladys E Allport are living with Elizabeth M Kinman on 1955 Electoral roll address 20 Sunningdale Road, Fox Hollies Ward, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. I too am unable to find any children, yet! bewdley

Do you know if there were definately any children born to this couple? If so,do you have their christian names?
There is always the possibility of them adopting children?

Do you know how old Elizabeth Kinman was in 1955 please?

Unfortunately not, Gladys' parents were Elizabeth M Sparkes and Herbert J Kinman, they married in July quarter 1924
Registration district: Birmingham North, County:Warwickshire Volume no: 6D Page no: 1002 so perhaps they were living with Gladys' mother or a sister.
Suggest purchasing marriage cert to confirm ages.

May not be of interest, but there is a marriage in Q2 1951 of Arthur N Kinman to Elizabeth Driver. GRO ref is Birmongham 9c 372

Found two birth registrations that might be of interest:

Elizabeth M Sparkes reg Q4 1919, Rugby 6d 1547 mother's maiden name is Adnitt
Elizabeth Sparkes reg Q3 1912, Aston 6d 680 mother's maiden name is Sparkes (this would usually indicate an unmarried mother)

If the first registration above is the correct one, I reckon that Elizabeth Kinsman (nee Sparkes) would have been 36 in 1955

Thank you Elizabeth Sparkes married in 1924 so I guess she was born around 1900 +-10 years

Can anyone tell me if either Helena Emma Allport b c 1911 in District of York, Ontario had as parents Fanny Louisa Arrowsmith and Albert J W Allport. Failing this can a check be done on Eileen Pavey Allport b c 1911 in York, Ontario to see if she is a child of this marriage. Albert b c 1879 Fanny b c 1877 (both UK births) Many thanks

Judith as this is primarily a Birmingham site perhaps your query would get more response on a Canadian site, such as on the one of the Rootsweb pages.

There is a tree on Ancestry detailing Helena's parents as Vincent Allport and Charlotte Matilda Walshe.(Walshe-Moorecroft Tree)
Also Eileen Pavey Allport, Father:Vincent Allport,Birth:16 Oct 1908 - York

Thank you for your responses Ladylinda,
I have also tried Rootsweb. They were originally both from Birmingham but emigrated to Canada in 1904 and 1910 respectively.
I cannot see deaths for either of them either.

Oops, missed that - just goes to show that I shouldn't do research late at night.

To try to redeem myself, I have searched FreeBMD from 1890 to 1910 across the country:
  • There is no Elizabeth M Sparkes in Birmingham - or anywhere closer than London.
  • There is an Eliza Elizabeth Sparkes born Q2 1902 in Birmingham
  • There is an Elizabeth Sarah Sparkes born in Q2 1890 in Birmingham
Obviously none of these match.

If you don't have the marriage certificate, I would suggest that you purchase it to check the details; there's always the chance that she was previously married and thus wasn't a Sparkes at birth.

On the 1930/31 Electoral roll Herbert Joseph, Elizabeth Mary Kinman and Enoch Sparkes are living at 12 Douglas Terrace, Farm Street, All Saints Ward, West Birmingham Division.

Herbert and Elizabeth have moved to 20 Sunningdale Road by 1935/6.

In 1945/6 Dorothy Cook was also living with them.

1947 there was Herbert J, Elizabeth M, Gladys E Kinman and Dorothy Cook.

By 1950/51 Electoral roll Herbert J has died aged 49, so born 1899ish (see below), and there was now Herbert W, Elizabeth M and Gladys E Kinman living at 20 Sunningdale Road.

From this info I would say that Elizabeth Mary was definitely Gladys’ mother. I will keep looking to see what else I can turn up.

Elizabeth M Kinman married Alfred Storer March qtr 1956 Birmingham

Elizabeth M Storer born 1902 died Dec 1979 Solihull South .....I think that the Elizabeth Sparks born in Aston in 1898 is your Elizabeth ......

I have tried to find her on both the 1901 and 1911 census, nothing on either....its a bit of a puzzle

Ladylinda what site did you find the above on ?......I subscribe to Ancestry and I know or think that they have yet to have the full 1911 census on their site...I think you have the correct family, but which one.....I think I would go with the second family mentioned, two facts, her birth year is the same as the Elizabeth that died in Solihull in 1979, and Hanley Street is in the Aston area of Birmingham.......
