I am currently researching Albert Gill VC and information I have so far suggests he was a pre-1914 regular. From 1914 he served with the Kings Royal Rifle Corps but I am unable to establish if this is the same regiment he served with previously. Can anyone help?

Hi Astoness,

Yes it is one and the same. I'm not a relative but am researching him in readiness for the dedication of the paving stones to all VC winners scheduled for November. I've seen the various photos of him from the web and visited his grave at Delville Wood last October. The reference to hi pre-War service comes from an account by David Delderfield

hi david i thought it must be the same one...sorry i cant help you with your enquiry as to which other regiment he served with i take it his war records are not on ancestry??

like i said i do have a photo of him in uniform and 2 of the dedication plaques that are inside the sorting office of hockly hill post office to those who worked there and were killed in action...

the dedication of paving stones sounds interesting...where will this be taking place..

Hi,

Unfortunately his war record isn't on Ancestry. I haven't seen the plaques in the Post Office so would be grateful for a copy.

The dedication is scheduled for 11th November 2015 outside the Hall of Memory and will commemorate the 10 VC recipients from the Great War who came from Birmingham.
