AI Limitations and Interpretations

I have to say that the use of AI to sharpen my 1950s/60s blurred box brownie type camera images has been extremely beneficial but I was using AI on a Parliament Street image this morning and the result highlights problems that can occur with this technology.

The image on the right shows an ice-cream van parked on Park Lane, with what I think is a mini parked in Parliament Street, the AI enhanced image has created an almost american type vehicle and has also identified a non-existent number plate 'XLF322'.

Also 2 people walking on the right-hand side have been converted to 1 and what appears to be a rubbish bin or cigarette machine.

Interesting and demonstrates how it can inaccurately manipulate images. Having said that the quality of the enhanced image, especially the foreground, is very good. Great if you've got poor quality family photos.

But not if it converts a grandmother with a scarf round her neck into a grandfather with a beard ! This might happen when it is fully let loose

to use AI as john has done on post 1 is perfectly fine with me...great improvements..what i object to (and we have seen them) is as mike suggests that a photograph is taken and people..cars..buildings etc added to it or like wise taken away...to me this is a total misrepresentation of an original photograph...lets not mess around with our history please just because we can

I think it is ok to improve the image quality but editing out information is dangerous territory. Where is the line between editing and removing someone from an image to distort what really happened?
