Hello
I found out that my great Aunt used to have the Acocks Green social club. Her name was Mary Watson Nee Smith, her partner was Wilfred George Watson. Mary who liked to be know as May, died 1954. When she passed Wilfred tried to get the license but was refused. I'm a bit surprised she wanted to be known as May as it was his first wife's name.
Mary also had a brother Joseph Smith born 1896 who lived in Acocks Green up until the 70's. Apparently he was married. They had no biological kids but adopted a very pretty young girl, who was a brilliant pianist. She was good enough to go to a music school but they couldn't afford to send her.
Any information on any of these people would be gratefully received.
