Aberdeen St in the 50s.

Hi all. I haven't been on here for a while. Hope all is well. I was born in Aberdeen St. Winson Green 1951. I remember hard times growing up. We lived at 6/125. We walked up the big yard to gain entry to our house. I remember the outside loo and the brew house. I can't remember there being a front door. I have since read that many of the back to back houses only had one door unless they were on the road . They would have a door on the street and more often than not, a door on the side of the property. My sister seems to think we had a small garden but i honestly cant remember. All i can think of is the big yard. Would anyone on here have a map or any information. please. My elder sister Josie would have remembered but she has sadly passed away. Josie spent many happy hours on this site and made a few friends. My young sister and i are trying to piece together our days in Winson Green. Many thanks to you all ..Eileen

Thanks Lyn for your reply. I have looked at the threads and the map. I can just about see where we lived. By the way i have looked at it, i think i maybe right in saying we didn't have a front door. I will have to do some more research. i have also got the photo's of Aberdeen St. i found them quite emotional, especially looking at josie's posts. We are all fine thanks although losing our big sister was difficult for us all, we still miss her terribly. Like i said she would have settled the big question about the door and told us many more stories. Mind you we had already heard most of them. Thanks once again for your help. Take care .. Eileenx

eileen i have asked mike to go back to the aberdeen thread and highlight 6/125 so that its easier for you to see..i am sure he will do this asap...i was born in our nans back to back and yes you would only have had the one door that most likely led straight into the living room...i am quite sure that josie would be delighted that you are carrying on researching where you lived she could talk for england about it when she came here for a cuppa...if you need any other help just give me a shout...always happy to help
