A walk round Town

froth i enjoyed my little jaunt a few weeks back round the back streets of digbeth...its amazing just how many old places are tucked away...i am just thinking where next to go...the jewellery quarter is always a good place and i know of a lovely little pub to partake of light refreshments...:D

You are doing fine, naming the buildings. What you have to remember is that not all of the people that use this site (member or guest) know Birmingham as well as some of us. So a load of photos with no locations on information means nothing to them. If you always try to add a location or name to a photo and even a little information on the history of the building then everybody gains. I find that when looking into the history of a building that I can often learn a lot myself.

Here are The Hall of Memory and Baskerville House on the site of what is known now as Centenary Square at the beginning of Broad Street.

The Hall of Memory opened in 1925 and stands as a memorial to the men and women of Birmingham who gave their lives in the First World War, Second World War and in active service since 1945.

Baskerville house also known as the Civic Centre built in 1938 stands on the site of the house of John Baskerville a well known typographer.

This building at the other end of Centenary Square has been the home of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre since it opened in 1971 when the company moved from its old home in Station Street.
