The 6" OS Series might serve your purpose, available at the National Library for Scotland (search for NLS Maps).

I believe these were issued to Birmingham police, but would have been on sale to the public. You could check Hay-on-Wye's website for list of bookshops, as I think there is or was a specialist shop there dealing in maps and guides.

THANKS FOR THE INFO.VERY HELPFUL.I knew I had an old A to Z somewhere and a rummage has retrieved it. It is a sheet map of Solihull and neighbouring Birmingham. Surprisingly it hasn't got a date but the price is both £sd and decimal so must be 1970's.

It is undated but I must have bought it in the early 1960s for 6/-. Its title is Birmingham and the West Midlands.
