Alfred Sinclair Major was initially an ironmonger in 1881. By 1891 his business changed to hats, describing his occupation on the census that year and 1901 as Hatter/ Shopkeeper. His son John Herbert was described as Hatters assistant. Son Alfred P was a cabinet maker. By 1911 Alfred Sinclair Major's status was cabinet maker and house furnisher and he was living on Bristol Rd Northfield. In later years, son John had premises on Soho Rd and lived in Birchfield. Alfred Sinclair still had premises at 75-79 Constitution Hill and lived in Norman Rd Northfield in 1925. The Constitution Hill premises appear to have been very much a family business set-up.
