Private George Tipper - News has been received by Mrs Tripper, of 7 back 11, Blythe Street, Ladywood, from the War Office that her only son, Private George Tripper, 3rd Coldstream Guards, was killed on the 16th of April in Belgium while throwing bombs, by one exploding in his hand. Private Tripper, who had been seven years in the army, was 26 years of age. He had seen service in Egypt, and went out with the Expeditionary Force in August 1914.

Private George Tipper, No.7730, 3rd Bn. Coldstream Guards. Only child of Fred Tipper, a builder's labourer, and Ada Tipper. George was born in Selly Oak, 14 February 1889. he was educated at St Barnabas Church School, Ryland Street, B'ham. George enlisted on 4 March 1908; went to France August, 1914, and was killed at Givenchy, France, on 16 April, 1915.
"He was relieved from sentry duty in the trenches, at 6 a.m. that morning, and then went to attend a class for bomb throwing and at 11 a.m. a bomb exploded in his hand killing him and Lt Crawford. He was buried by the Bishop of Khartoum, just behing the firing line."
Pte George Tipper is now buried in The Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, France.
