50th Anniverary 3rd Coldstream Guards

Bernard67Arnold

master brummie
Since 1945 successive governments have decimated the British Army, first to go were the country regiments, who had many years of service and tradition,
some were done way with, others amalgamated andin the case of my old
battilion the 3rd Coldstream was put in "Suspended Animation", the MOD s
name for mothballs. this year is the .fiftieth anniversary of that happening
and on 12th Sept; I am attending a black tie dinner here in Derby for a
final reunion, ex members of The Fighting Third will be coming from all over the country, no doubt there will be a lot of lamp swinging going on.
Many of them are 80 or over so may well the last one! Nulli Secundus
Bye for now Bernard67 Arnold

hi Bernard 67. Just read your thread, Hope your dinner do goes well. although I never served in the armed forces mainly due to the old chap not signing the papers until I finished my aprentiship. By then it was too late had a family. Anyway thats water under the bridge. Have just recieved the aplication for service records and am about to start research on my grandfather who served in the 2nd Bn Coldstream Guards and was killed on the 9th August 1918 and buried At the Canieres Communal Cemetery Extension. Hope to get over there next year to fulfill a promise made to dad. by the way I wanted to join the Life Guards.

hi bernard
yes quite right my battalion 2nd (the hougamont) battalion unbroken service to the crown
since 1682 disbanded 30/12/1993. Little do these grey suited westminster armchair political idiots, who have never served in any branch of the armed forces, who know nothing of honour and love for a regiment/battalion consign them to the waste basket of history without a second thought. NULLI SECUDUS .
regards
paul

Hello. My brother and Cousin were both in the Coldstream Guards, brother station in Germany. If I remember correctly it wasn't done to call the 'fir hat' a busby - it was a 'bear skin'. Miriam.
