My assumption that the White's lived on Swanhurst Road was wrong.
Mary must have been a nurse maid for them. now to search for a Denis
White, Farmer in 1935 - ha ha!

I know this thread is nearly 11 years old but whilst working on my family tree today I came across the following picture featuring a distant cousin (very)
39 Coldbath Road.jpg Originally uploaded onto Ancestry by Margaret House
The caption reads 39 Coldbath Road, on the back is written "George and dog" We're guessing this is George Forman. The shop was run by his aunt Alice Firkins nee Forman.
I wonder whereabouts on Coldbath Road number 39 was located.

c1954 map - red marker is 39. The island is at the junction by the Billesley pub.

The grey house with the door on the side is no 39.

It is actually 2 flats. Planning permission was given in 1998 to change the ground floor layout (including former shop) into a flat.

Hi, just a very small point. Swanshurst [Road] ie Lane is in Moseley rather than Kings Heath. Historically ie before 1912 it was in Yardley Parish.

Thanks for you prompt reply, very good information. There is also a picture showing a family wedding at the Billesley Hotel which would have been handy for everyone from about the same era but I can't upload it as the file is too big and if I crop it it means cutting people out of the picture.

There are some instructions for resizing images withut the need to crop.

Thanks to both pjmburns and Mohawk for the tip. Heres the picture I mentioned in post#9

245.jpg The caption to it says "William's Index says it's the "Outside Billesley Hotel". This could be the Billesley Arms."
