Hi all from Australia,
my family over here has an avid interest in finding out about the above individual as he is my Great Grandfather. He was born in Birmingham in 29 Oct 1889 and was married to Claire during the war. I believe he had a son named Maurice born in 1913 and we have an address as 88 Church St, Olabury, North Birminham. He worked as a clerk in the Metropolitan Carriage Wagon & Finance Co Ltd which was a subsidiary of Vickers Ltd. We would like to know if he had and siblings and who his parents were, also the same for Claire. After the war he migrated to Australia in 1921. I would also like to know if we are related to anyone there and get in touch and let them know what us colonials are doing. I have attached a picture of him and and one of him in the war posing in a soccer team (second from the right sitting next the sergent). his war record would be a bonus as well the only thing we have is a copy of his Medal Index Card. I hope to hear from you soon.

Kindest regards

Jason

The only birth registration I can find of a William Eaton (no mention of George) is in the June Qtr of 1890 in Birmingham.

Seems too late to be your Wiliiam if he was born at the end of October 1889. I also looked for a George Eaton but found nothing at all.

Where did you find his birth date?

Hi Guys,
WOW! I don't know what to say but this has given me a plethera of info to go on. All I can say is thanks. I got his birth date from the Nominall Roll https://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/name.asp for WW2 Veterans in Australia. Yes he had a second dig and was a glutton for punishment. He was marched in to the 1st Garrison battalion as a Sergent near Brisbane Australia and was discharged medically unfit as a now defunct rank in our Army of Staff Sergent. He did not get overseas but joined the day the WW2 was declared, but I'm sure with his health and knowledge he would have attempted to weasel his way overseas on active duty. Lucky for him he did not but died on 22 Oct 1956 and is buried at Bulimba Cemetary, Block 7, plot 441 with his wife Claire who I'm just finding out about now, she died about 13 years later. They were survived by Maurice and the new son Kenneth Knox Eaton (my Grandfather now deceased)

Is there a possibility of getting a birth certificate for them to find out for sure who the parents are and the exact birth date or am I assuming too much about record keeping back then? Does anyone have ahistory of both units he served in with service records? For all you have helped me I am eternally grateful and hope to visit one day as an interested decendant.

I have attached an Image of his grave in Brisbane which they are both buried in. I am rectifying the absence of Claires name and am discussing this with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

I hope to hear from you all soon.

Kindest regards

Jasonn

Hello Jason
I was trying to find information about my cousin, Roy Eaton, who was killed in WW2. I was not successful but noticed your message. My name is Sybil and I am a first cousin of your grandfather, Kenneth. I have been doing some family research and can give you details starting with George's grandparents.
They were Thomas Eaton, basketmaker born 1831 and Anne (Sushannah) Fisher born 1822 Their son Thomas Eaton basketmaker born 1860 married Mary Ann Allen born 1861.
Her parents were William Allen and Betsy Dicken.
They had 4 children as follows
1 Eleanor (Auntie Nellie to me) born 1884, married Albert Ellis and had a son, Fred and a daughter, Valerie who is stills alive and still lives in Whitchurch. She was 100 this year.
2 Thomas Wilfred (Uncle Wilfred to me), born 1886. Married Lilly and had 3 sons all deceased, Wilfred, Howard and Roy.
3 William George (Uncle George to me) born 1888. Married Claire and emigrated to Australia Had 2 sons Maurice and Kenneth.
4 John Allen Oliver (known as Dad to me), born 1895. Married Sarah Coles and had 3 children
Donald born 1922 deceased but his widow Joyce is still living aged 91. They have 2 sons Roger and Simon.
Maurice born 1929 married to Rita and living on the South Coast. they have a daughter Sarah.
Sybil (me) born 1932, married to Ernie with a daughter Carolyn and son Christopher.
I don't think there is any doubt that we are of the same family and look forward to exchanging lots more information. I expect I have given you enough information to fill in a few blank spaces for now.
Our best wishes to all our family in Australia, Sybil

G'day Sybil,
Pleased to meet you. William George or "George" as he was known here, landed in Sydney on the Berrima with Claire and subsequently moved to Brisbane. Kenneth was born and married Doreen Mary mcDonald (still kicking at 91 and spritely)who had 2 children named Noela (my aunty) and Gail Margaret (my mother). Gail has had 4 children me (Jason), my sister Karen, brothers Adam (deceased) and Ryan. I have had 5 Kids through 2 marriages the first being Joshua Micahel, Aaron James and Jared and the second marriage Alexander Knox (after Kenneth my Grandfather) and Georgia Gail (after Mum) who is only 4 months old. I don't know much about Maurice's side but have met an Aunty from his side and would be keen to know the deatils. I believe an Uncle returned to Blighty and is still living there (don't quote me on that). This is my personal email jason.bool@bigpond.com drop me line and I will send you some pics and further updates.

Hi Jason, My granddaughter was doing some homework on her ancestory and lo and behold my son came across your site. My name is Graham Eaton and George and Claire were my Grandpa and Nanna. They lived at Tingalpa for all the time that I knew them until they died. My father is Maurice Roland Eaton and there were 5 children with my mother Edith Beryl Eaton. I will contact you via your e-mail that I saw on this site.

Hi Sybil, I have come across some of your descendants old photo's and paper clippings, books etc. George & Nellie Eaton, Florence and Marjorie Eaton are mentioned also. The address on the letters & postcards is 1/25 St.Mary's row in Moseley, Birmingham, B13- sounds about right. The items date from 1890 to 1940, was going to sell it all but guess it would mean a lot more to give them to you if they are your relations. Regards

Hi there folks, not sure if relevant but have come into possession of some letters, photo's, postcards from 1890-1945. They contain the surname Eaton with the address on most of the letters being 1/25 St.Mary's Row, Moseley, B'ham B13. The first names mentioned are George, Marjorie and Nellie. There are numerous letters, photo's, postcards, Xmas greetings, obituaries and a few books. Got them from an address in Oldbury, saved them from the tip and then found all the personal stuff. Anyone know someone who is related and might be interested in them?
Regards

On further inspection of some of the items in my possession there is a small 'in loving memory' card for Susannah Eaton who died on 29th of May 1904 aged 70 years. There is a similar card for Florence Annie Eaton who died on April 26th 1915 aged 45 years and the same style card for a Julie Oldaker who died June 17th 1896 aged 55yrs. There is a Christmas card from a P.Oldaker of 49 Jakeman Road, Cannon Hill dated Xmas 1911. There is a whole pack of photo's that have been developed while on holiday in Clacton-On-Sea, these are dated 1948. Postcards to 'Nell' from dad in sept 1924. There are business letters then for R.Eaton & Son who were electrical engineers in Moseley Village 1940's. Letters from Nellie Eaton to George Eaton when she had gone to Kingwliamstown in South Africa to live and work (dated late 30's/40's). Hope this makes sense to someone.

Regards

G'day, Sorry for being so lazy but things here are too busy to talk about. Anyway I would be keenly interested in anything that is to with my family and would love to see what you have.

Regards

Jason
