hi folks..think ive posted most of my newly aquired pub pics but there are 3 where the captions dont tell the whole story so if anyone can help me out i would be grateful....

pic 1...caption reads..manager of the gate 1947...i know of the gate at saltly but think there was another one somewhere...hoping someone may recognise the interior...

pic 2..caption reads...pub in hunter st..dated 1993..ive not heard of a hunter st...

pic 3..caption reads...101 arthur st..sandpits...dated 1959...i need the name of the pub..

Lyn, the only "Hunters" I can find are:

Hunter's Vale, 381 Farm Street, Hockley, and

Hunters Road, 103 Hockley Hill to Villa Road.

yes i only know of hunters vale and hunters road..i knew it would not be hunters vale so thanks col it seems to be hunters road...will take a trip down there when i can with me camera...

thanks also sylv...

In 1968 Kelly's lists 2 pubs called Gate Inn,
36 High St., Saltley
183, Icknield St.,
and The Gate
14, Studley St.

thanks col..ive got a sneeky feeling its the one at saltly but we may never get to answer to this one..shame the gaffers name was not included as a kellys look up for 1947 would have sorted it

lyn

Maybe the one in Sandpits is The Stores? I know there was one on a corner though, also in Sandpits...so not sure, Lyn.

Kelly's 1949, nearest I can get,
Gate Inn, High Street, Thos. Whitaker Jnr.
Icknield St. Alec Tyers
Studley St. Albt. Turner.

I never actually used the Gate at Saltley so I can't say, but I used the gate in Studley St often and its a possibility. The trouble is with all these pubs that were built around the same time the view looking toward the bar is very similar. If the view was the general interior of the pub that would be a different matter.

i know what you mean phil....they were all very similar around that time especially after a few...:D
