212-213 Broad Street in the 1980s

Would it be OK for me to ask a question about Broad Street here please?
Where was the Royal Navy-Royal Marines recruiting office in Broad Street?

When I was sixteen, I walked into that office and signed up; just because I liked the posters in the window! I didn't tell my parents and it was another year before I received the letter and travel warrant to go and join up. My parents were shocked, angry but mostly proud that I had taken the initiative on my own to do that. I had worked in a factory until then and what followed I would class as the best 22 years of my working life.

cheers,
Mike
Mike if my memory serves me right back in the 60's it was next to the Everyman Stationery Co. The one poster I alway's remember is a Marine I think it was wearing a pith helmet or topi with a big smile on his face . Mike thank you very much for your service really well done 22 yrs

Thanks Mike.
I used to live in Gooch St and would often walk up Hurst St and then over to Broad St because it was such a busy and interesting place. I went into that recruiting office in 1964 and, 22 years later, I went up there again but this time I walked into the big bank opposite the Hall of Memory. It was a TSB bank and I asked for a job. I had an interview and they sent me to work at their offices in Brighton! Couldn't have been any further away from where I lived. I must go back one day, just to see how that area has changed as I probably won't recognise any of it.
cheers,
Mike

In 1966 Everyman was 266a, 267
Thanks MikeJ when I saw your message I thought I could never be that far out with my addresses. Having checked where Mike signed on Salisbury’s the butchers was next door to the recruitment centre. Then when I checked my Kelly’s I knew I wasn’t dreaming my Naval centre was at 274/275 Broad Street so a little lower down Broad Street and very close to the Everyman Co. I certainly remember that unit Bootneck signed at , I used to fetch errands from the butchers close by .
