1930's Diesel Railcar

Phil

Gone, but not forgotten.
Who can tell me anything about this copy of a photo I found in my collection, The caption says Streamlined Diesel Railcar 1930's and that is all the information I have as I have had it for a few years. I have to assume it was taken somewhere in Birmingham, as there is no other reason why I would keep it.

I have to say, that it doesen't sit right with me and I think it looks much later than 1930 to me, but there again what do I know.

So they did run from Birmingham and must have been quite nippy to get to Cardiff in 2 hours 20 minutes. I would have thought that quite good for 1934.

Great Western Railway (GWR) Railcar, sometimes referred to as a Flying Banana. On display at the STEAM Museum in Swindon.
This is No4: the one in your photo is No5.
The blanked off window at the front of the side is the luggage compartment, which is opposite double doors visible in your picture.

One or two finished their days on parcel services from Snow Hill and could be see in the bay platforms on the Wolverhampton ends

What an interesting link Alf i have added it to my favorites:)Mossy

All the above goes to show how advanced Gods Wonderful Railway was!

We used to regularly use the railcar service between Snow Hill and Dudley, to visit relations. As I recall they vibrated and rattled like hell compared with a steam train.
