Can you imagine the frantic building activity in Birmingham in the late Victorian era, must have been incredible, it makes you wonder where they sourced all the building materials.
And some suppliers made a very handsome profit !
Wondering if there were many brickworks around (what became) the city centre in the 1870s ? There were plenty in the suburbs. I expect a significant number of ready made bricks were transported in via the canal system (?) As well as sand from the suburban sandpits ?
