    i have an old photograph of Small Heath Ath Midland Templars AFL 2nd division champions 1937-8 which my grandad played for, I am presuming he stopped playing when war broke out as he became a home guard (was not called to war as he was a metal roller and they were required to manufacture items...

    There is still a small concrete base and there is an area of grassed over tarmac (you can still see feel it underfoot).

    I think my grandad served at Garretts Green as a Home Guard. He was a metal roller so he was needed to work rather than enlisted. I still have his Home Guard certificate.

    Thank you could be the same Agnes, my great grandmother was born in 1879 and married William Henry Hinett in 1899. She died in 1954 and is buried in the Hinett family grave in Witton Cemetery.
