    sutton new road erdington

There's a really atmospheric picture at the bottom of the page(see above) of a tram in the rain outside the Picture House in High Street. Just before the trams were re-routed via Sutton New Road I imagine.

    WW1 Service Records Question

Could you tell me where to look for details for this man who fought in WW1 and survived. I'm used to looking for soldiers who died but at a loss for those who survived. WHITEHEAD A.P. Station House, Chester Road. 1st City of Birmingham Battalion. Many thanks for ideas, pointers etc.

From Aston & Erdington Remembered by Stephen Birch on Facebook. Smashing photos on Sutton New Road Construction.

    Belmont Row

I wonder if Birmingham Waste was the man we used to collect what was left at the the end of a jumble sale in the 1970's. He recycled everything - mostly I think for cleaning rags in factories.

Happy Belated Birthday Janice. Couldn't find a minute to get to the laptop. Must try harder!

    Aston Hall

Hi Viv, the gateway faces the front of the hall but the building on the left looks as though it's to the side. Have I got my bearings wrong? I wondered if it could be the Grammar School? Unless it's a bit of artistic licence.

    Aston Hall

Good to know that they're opening a few more days Stokkie, thank you. Just wish there was a little more for visitors. The lovely formal garden to the side of the hall is usually well kept but even that has been neglected.

    Curzon Hall Suffolk St

Smashing photo Viv. I researched the Birmingham Boxers 1875-1900 some years ago and although this is just outside that time the names are familiar. I went to the newspaper archive while it was still at Colindale in London to read the Midland Sporting News for the 25 years, or at least those that...

    Aston Hall

We went last Sunday as we have museum memberships and like to pop in for a browse, coffee and perhaps buy something from the shop for our granddaughter. What a disappointment. The girl on the desk, said there was no shop except for a few books by the desk and some secondhand paperbacks for sale...

    Broadfields House Lindenhurst House

Hi Janice, I decided to revisit Broadfields House as I was due to visit Central Library to start research again this week but as you know events overtook us. I was hoping that Benjamin Stone had taken a photograph but all I've got so far is the wall with the bus parked outside! Firstly, I think...

    Electric Cinema Station Street

Lyn, I really don't know! I thought it was on the left of your picture. Or was that the old Rep? Perhaps that's what I'm getting mixed up with. Anything's possible at the moment. Just had a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Electric,_Birmingham which details the Electric's history...

    Electric Cinema Station Street

Wasn't that the Tatler Lyn? Or are they both the same? I only went once with my brother while Mom was at the court getting probate for Dad in 1964. Obviously it doesn't have good memories.

    'Little' Boldmere

Hi JessicaWho, sorry I missed your post. The area/road you refer to is, I think, on the Lyndhurst Estate which is quite some way from Boldmere, at least 20 minutes walk. I'm pretty sure there is a thread on this forum about the Lyndhurst. Just type in a few things in the search area at the top...

    Erdington - High Street

Thanks Lyn, it was the right hand side I used to wait by. Down the side entrance. Dad took me in to see the clock once, I mentioned it some time ago. I think the face revolved rather than it having hands and it appeared to go backwards. No-one else remembers it but then I don't think many of my...

    Birmingham (Industrial) Cooperative Society Shops

My Dad worked the Co-op on Stockland Green from the mid-1920's. I can still smell the cheese, coffee and bacon when you walked in. ,This would have been the early 1950's. Lovely shot of the Co-op in Erdington. I presume it's 6 ways end but I can never remember the numbering.

    Erdington - High Street

Thanks Micky. Definitely Roebuck (I used to wait outside on a Saturday morning for my Dad till Mom put a stop to it.) I had misplaced the buildings I was referring to. Facing Woolies, they were the other side of the school, the three in a row slighter further back from the road.

can you place any forum issues in here after the rebuild

Viv, I've just posted the same message 3 times on your Erdington thread, sorry! It was ages going and the third one went straight away. Strange.

    Erdington - High Street

Lovely photo Viv. I remember it looking like this. I have marked the photo (with what is supposed to be an arrow!!) where I remember two very old buildings stood. In my mind they were wooden but I'm probably wrong. I thing the next building is probably the Roebuck. Any ideas please?

can you place any forum issues in here after the rebuild

Same thing happened to me and a message appeared about waiting 22 seconds. Also (certainly not a complaint just a query) but I can't get to the forum in the old way of putting the address in the usual place. I have to Google 'Birmingham History Forum'. This has been happening for quite some...
