Smith William, sawyer, Upper Marshall Street 1851 census

Thanks. Can rule that one out then. And he appears to be alive in 1861, a railway porter living in Camp Hill with wife and children.

Just seen a baptism for an Edward Smith, son of William and Sarah, Jun 1835 Kenilworth. Possible death reg. Bham 1846.

That sounds more likely than the one I found, William had a brother called Edward. It seems probable that that is the Sarah in the burial but doesn't make it certainly your Sarah.

No, it's a William, Sarah and 2 children - Thomas and William. Sarah's age is quite a bit out but 1841 census has a lot of inaccuracies. However, there's no way to know if it's the right family.

Gosta Green is close to Aston University. It would be about a mile from Adderley St.

I think the Shut Lane Smith family isn't the right one. There appears to be birth reg. for the two youngest children that match possible baptisms both with mmn Wood. The Ann Wood with them in 1841 being Sarah's sister. I previously mentioned a William and Sarah Smith in Gosta Green. William's...

There are a couple possible deaths reg. in Bham - Mar 1846, aged 26 (a bit young and a bit early maybe?) and Sep 1848, aged 32. Tricky and that's assuming she died where they were living and not on a visit to family or something. How have you worked out the other children? And I think you'd...

124 Havelock Road is on a corner. 168 Arden road is no more but there is a bit of a slope where it was, so not sure if that rules it out. 24 Ellesmere Road has a small front garden. 39 Adderley Road had a space to it's left as did 108 Saltley Road.

Smith William, sawyer, Upper Marshall Street 1851 census

William's birthplace is listed as Haseley on I think all the other censuses. He appears to have been the son of Thomas Smith and Hannah Keen, baptised 1814.

I think we've all been caught out by incorrect information on the censuses etc. If you're lucky you realise it quite soon but it can lead you down the wrong path and to a lot of wasted research. And on the subject of jobs, I'd guess for William when he moved to Bham and coming from a rural...

    Bagley family, Birmingham, 1920s

A quick look and it appears that Noel and Edna had no children and that Edna was born in Plumstead, Kent and was an only child. Noel was born in Wylde Green and had a brother and 3 sisters. Two of his sister don't seem to have married and the other but had no children. They are all living with...

    Wigley Ancestors

Ancestors or descendants? Elder Charles son of John Wigley and Harriet Porter? Two of his brothers - John and Richard - appear to have had children so hopefully there will be some descendants out there.

It does seem that even from the limited evidence available that Hannah's father appeared to have a few different jobs before finally settling down as a chemical labourer. On the 1851 census he appears to be listed as Pearl Button (?) Maker and on the 1841 there is a William Smith of the right...

And looking at it it just doesn't say Birmingham, it says Borsley, Birmingham which has to be Bordesley. And Adderley Street, listed on Hannah's baptism, is in Bordesley.
