    HS2 progress 2020 and beyond

Disappointing but you can see a lot of progress being made all along the route - there is loads great of drone footage available. No doubt the people responsible for the mess will be/are still getting a hefty pension for their monumental incompetence.

William Brown was married to Elizabeth Grant's sister Annie, hence brother-in-law.

William and Elizabeth possibly marry in 1912.

Anyone fancy sharpening their search skills?

As it appears that Frederick married Elizabeth Grant then it is likely that Frederick died in 1911, reg. Mar qtr Aston. Elizabeth is listed as widow in the household of her widowed brother in law (William Brown) and two daughters.

Assuming that Harry did marry Alice Clarke (she is still listed as married) then in both 1921 & 1939 Harry is not with Alice and children. Their youngest son appears to have been called Edwin.

There are a number of possibilities for Arthur being in the army on the 1911 censuses but no way to tell if any of them are him.

Anyone fancy sharpening their search skills?

Intriguing possibly for Edwin (reg. as such) Mar qtr 1888 Bham. There is mention of an Edwin Arthur Smith b 28 Feb 1888 Bham who was a professional footballer. Can't be certain but it's not unheard of for people to take a second name at a later date or be reg. without it and there doesn't...

Charles appears to be easy. Birth reg. Mar 1872 Bham as Charles Thomas Richard Smith. Mar. reg. Sep 1893 Aston to Florence Jeanette Jones. Death reg. Jun 1917 Bham. Charles and Florence had at least 6 children - Charles, Dorothy, Bertram, Florence Jeanette, Lilly & Frederick. In 1901 and...

    Birmingham in 1960s

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say but it's nothing new. Expectations grow with every generation and my nan disapproved of what we expected/got (70s/80s) and we didn't have a lot. Though she had nothing when she grew up. Children have always wanted what others had but it was limited to...

How do you know they weren't, maybe you've been brainwashed to believe that they weren't brainwashed.

    Smith and Ashford

I would definitely say the lower down court 28 is on Tower St. It fits in the sequence on that street but is out of sequence for Hospital St. And as sure as I can be I would say the other two courts are the correct ones. Not always straightforward but you could try to match the number of houses...

    hipkiss family

Richard Hipkiss (father) b1835 d1914 was the son of (another) Richard Hipkiss and Elizabeth Williams. As mentioned he was a jeweller though in 1861 he is listed as a Publican on Ludgate Hill. Richard Hipkiss b1815 d1841 was the son of (you guessed it) Richard Hipkiss and his second wife, Hannah...

    HASTINGS Charlotte and OWEN Thomas

Incorrectly listed as Clarke on familysearch. He seems to be the son of a John and Jane Owen. In 1841 he appears to be on New Town Row with his father. He had a brother also John, who was a brewer and lived in the vicinity.

    HASTINGS Charlotte and OWEN Thomas

I couldn't see one either so not sure. I'm not sure if this is her in 1861 but there is a Mary Gough with husband Joseph living on Gooch St. The ages are about right but her birthplace is incorrect (from transcript) but close enough to 1851 to imagine an error was made. Interestingly she is...

    HASTINGS Charlotte and OWEN Thomas

You may already know this but... I see that the Joseph Owen greengrocer does not marry Mary (Gough nee Lewis) until 1866 and in 1861 he is a widower living with a housekeeper and no children listed. Which would account for the lack of a Thomas Owen in 1861 if he is a stepson.

Conflicting DOB / Offical Register - is this the same person ?

It looks like you were searching for Alice Saunders but you should have been searching for Alice Rothen. 1939 Register lists her as Alice Beech (Rothen) which indicates a name change, usually because of a marriage.
