Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. I used most of your information and the day was a success. We held the exhibition in the Booking Hall of Sutton Station and had over a hundred visitors including our Member of Parliament. Not bad for a four hour slot on a Saturday.

Hi Viv, Looking at Moor End Lane and Fern Road, they merge just at this cottage. I think it became known as Fern Cottage and although it had been thatched it was tiled in later life. This photo from Images of England, Erdington Volume II by Peter Drake and Marian Baxter shows the cottage.
