I'm now almost completely sure that Edwin Arthur Smith the footballer is not your Edwin Smith. The main site that has information about him has mixed up two different Edwin Arthur Smiths (neither yours) and used info from both.

Sorry I meant a marriage for that Charles' father, Thomas Smith to Elizabeth Bishton.

I assume you know it's possible that Charles (the father) wasn't a Smith at all. There is no birth reg. for him or marriage for his parents that I can see and Thomas appears to still be single in 1851. None of which are conclusive but create a little doubt.

On the GRO site mother's maiden name appears on most search results.

That moving completion date is shocking I can't disagree. Again is it down over optimism of the original backers, lack of appreciation of the complexities or incompetence of the builders (past and present)? Mainly the first two in my opinion.

Doesn't make it right but the cost of all major products seem to be underestimated. I don't think you can say it's a waste of money until it is completed and then see if it does what it was intended to do. I will say that I'm not sure it will.

William Brown was married to Elizabeth Grant's sister Annie, hence brother-in-law.

William and Elizabeth possibly marry in 1912.

As it appears that Frederick married Elizabeth Grant then it is likely that Frederick died in 1911, reg. Mar qtr Aston. Elizabeth is listed as widow in the household of her widowed brother in law (William Brown) and two daughters.

Assuming that Harry did marry Alice Clarke (she is still listed as married) then in both 1921 & 1939 Harry is not with Alice and children. Their youngest son appears to have been called Edwin.

There are a number of possibilities for Arthur being in the army on the 1911 censuses but no way to tell if any of them are him.

I would definitely say the lower down court 28 is on Tower St. It fits in the sequence on that street but is out of sequence for Hospital St. And as sure as I can be I would say the other two courts are the correct ones. Not always straightforward but you could try to match the number of houses...
