I'm getting a bit confused here. Surely some of Erdington Grammar School was built on the site of Erdington Hall not Pype Hayes Hall. Erdington Hall was demolished in 1912? to make way for the construction of Tyburn Road. The school was in Kingsbury Road.

I always understood that Gem Street school was for deaf children. This would have been in the 1950's.

Viv, it shows the ballroom next to the cinema. Lovely, with a raised platform for the band and sprung floor. I wasn't allowed to go so I used to say I was going to the pictures - not strictly true but near enough. Only problem was that I had to leave the dance hall when the picture ended next door!
