Yes John, I believe it was Henry Poultons.

My Dad tells me that during the 1930's & 40's everyone refered to the Lister Fruit Store, Gt Lister Street as " The Soldiers " but he never knew why. Apparently the owner had never been in the army. Anyone able to expand on the reason???

Re: Replies Here The "Bubble" cockpit as pictured in post #150 & #202 was designed for the Seafire (the naval variant of the Spitfire) so that the pilots had a better view of the carrier flight deck. So are these pictures of the Seafire or did a variant of the Spit' have this design too.?

Back in the early 70's I had to catch a coach to Portsmouth every sunday night. The pick up point was Jamaica Row. Now all I can remember was that even back then there was not much left of the Row. Can anyone tell me anything about Jamaica Row or are there any pictures? Was there any connection...

Hi Len. Now I show my ignorance. 18yrs in the RN and I didn't even know that the RN used MTB's, I thought they were all RAF crewed. Still, if you can't land an aircraft on it I never considered thinking about it.:D Good site though. Enjoyed reading through it

Cheers Darby. The good old "Stringbag" now of the RN Historic Flight. I worked on the early restoration of that very aircraft at Lee-on-Solent in 1975 before it was handed over to the FAA Museum. A very underated aircraft yet one of the most valliant of WW2. With actions at Taranto and the raids...
