    BCFC new stadium

I guess that it shows ambition, but it is going to take an awful lot of "full houses" at sports and other events, to recoup all of the money that is being spent on building a new stadium from scratch. It has only been just over 30 years since they last did major work to improve the present one...

Crown And Cushion Pubs Perry Barr

We often had an evening at the Old Crown after work in 1982, 1983 and 1984 Lyn, we also went to a do upstairs around then. We had a meal at that restaurant over the road back around then too, although we were the only ones there at the time, it was a little early...

Crown And Cushion Pubs Perry Barr

I think it was demolished sometime in the mid or late 80s Lyn and was replaced by the dreadful new build Crown & Cushion, that then became The African Village, which itself closed down after a fire, that had occurred shortly after planning permission had been rejected to build flats on it's car...

    ChrisM RIP

Such sad news. Chris wrote so well about Streetly and the Chester Road, on which he and his family had lived. I found his memories to be a fascinating read, as someone who has also spent many years living in that area. My thoughts are with his family and friends, including those on this site -...

    new peaky series

I would, a little violent at times and a little near the knuckle at times, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, it is quality viewing imo.

    Ghost signs of Birmingham

I was outside The Station in Sutton Coldfield this morning (not waiting for it to open this time :)) but, as I've mentioned before @ #1392, there are some nice examples of current sign writing, brickwork and ghost signs to be found there - picture 3 top right "Stouts":

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

Yes Dave. Perry Barr won't be the same without the track, I passed it after yesterday's game last night and there are just piles of rubble now. So easy to destroy for those that have no interest in sport and would rather build yet more flats, where once speedway and greyhounds brought the crowds...

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

I did Dave and appreciated it, unfortunately I didn't see it before posting myself.

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

Perhaps that's why they were in such a hurry to knock it down Lyn? ;)

massive hike on cost of probate records

At least they kept the rise to the current inflation rate....not . It looks to me like they are going through everything with a fine-tooth comb, in an attempt to find some way to get some more money into the government's coffers and they couldn't wait until the budget to announce this...
