    Nineveh Road Handsworth

The corner building that's now Purnell Estates was a Newsagent/Stationery shop in the mid/late 60s and was run by Newport and Green they also ran the little market in the space before William Hill was built (I don't know what was there originally) a couple of doors away on Soho Road. I worked...

    Italians in Birmingham

Interesting! There was a Cerrone in my class at Junior school. I don't know what her father did for a living but I do remember him, they lived fairly near us in Perry Barr. I can also remember her grandmother who lived with them, a little lady who I guess was a widow as she wore the traditional...

Yes indeed, I used to go to the Metro! Later it became Subway City and was extended over two of the arches instead of the original single space. It's still a club, now The Tunnel..

    Rebecca's, Severn Street

I remember Rebecca's well, my friend and I used to go there frequently in the late 60s/early 70s. Great place for meeting up with other friends and good live bands. I seem to recall reading that part of the building was a warehouse originally - possibly for sugar?

    1911 Census: 'feeble-minded'

I guess the old fashioned term 'feeble minded' could cover a variety of things, people weren't meaning to be rude they just wouldn't know any other words to describe it. The information about various conditions just wasn't available to the general public in years gone by. I remember my Nan would...

    RIP OZZY OSBOURNE

Copied from another Forum, I can't read the full article without having subscribed to the New York Times. The certificate says Osbourne died of “(a) Out of hospital cardiac arrest (b) Acute myocardial infarction (c) Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction...

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

I wonder! On the map you posted of Station Street in 1887 (post #92) I see there is another hotel further along on the corner with Dudley Street, what would that one have been?

I'd like a look in there! I wonder if the old building is still used for anything - storage maybe?

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

As far as I remember (from the 60s) there has been nothing else built on the site - maybe someone else can confirm?

    Birmingham Post & Mail

That's just reminded me that my Mom worked in that department for a while! They were given a template of where the ball should be to place over each entry and I think they then put those very close to one side so someone else would then do a finer check to decide the winners!
