    Bournville Boys’ Grammar Technical School

Hi Morris, sad to say none of the pupil names mean anything. The faces would probably stir memories, recalling some of my classmates is difficult. Mr Fiddes or Fido as many pupils called him was very memorable. He was our form master in my third year, strange man I thought. I remember when we...

    Bournville Boys’ Grammar Technical School

This is a photo of my class (Form) at school. Classes were called "forms" and the teachers were "masters" all a bit strange. Some of the masters used the old gowns as well. The identities of most of the boys I can just about remember if any wants to know. stretching my memory a bit but I'm sure...

    Past Family

A fascinating character, I am a little biased. He used to do his horse bets with his little pencil (Illegally betting) and taught me to read before I went to school . I was no expert at reading but well ahead of the game when I started school. He, when I was about 5 came home from the pub and in...

    Past Family

Yes and always poor, I think from the photo he remained poor for the rest of his life. We left there in about 1954 as part of the slum clearance and he went to live with relatives in Ladywood. He sadly ended his days in Western Road

    Past Family

Thanks Astoness, he certainly could tell some stories, married 3 times around 30 children. Sadly a lot died at or immediately after birth. He served in the first World War and was still alive until I was about 8 years old, so I was able to be with him in his later years.

    Downings Mystery

I would like to thank all the members of the team for their help with my enquiry, it helped me to understand how David Downing could still be on the electoral roll after his death. The address 134 Great Tindal Street featured in an earlier post, someone was enquiring about a house number in...

    Great Tindal Street Ladywood

Just come across the posts about Gt Tindal Street and saw the picture of the car by a lamp post. Fascinating to see because it was my Uncle Arthurs Slaneys car. They lived at 134 Gt Tindal St and I used to spend most of my weekends there. Think my parents were glad to get rid of me. I'm sure I...

    Gladys Maud Downing

I wonder, strange affair. That could mean she never married so the childs surname would be Downing.
