When my son was born in 1977 we were living on Warren Farm Road close to Danesbury Road, my wife had to take my son to the clinic further down the road towards College Road,
Here is a photo of the Sutton Street from the Retreat, You can see that the road was not unsurfaced and neither was the rest of the retreat, nor Wilkinson Street, it wasn't the best of surfaces, but never had a problem riding my bike around there,
I can remember going to Albert Road clinic to have my teeth removed, like everyone else it scarred me for life, big wooden chair, 3 or 4 assistants to hold me down and to shovel something in my mouth that felt like a old type of finger plaster, and to hold the gas mask over my mouth and nose...
Never did the outer 11 route, but did the inner circle quite often most Sunday mornings while my nan got the dinner ready, only took an hour to go all the way round and only cost 6d...
I had the same dentist for over 40years, Peter Luke who was based firstly at Wheeler Street then Four Oaks, not only did he look after my teeth but also my wife, children and grandchildren teeth as well, best dentist I have had, he had an accident a few years back which he didn't recover from..
I would stick my neck out and say that it is Caroline Street, don't forget all or most of the buildings have disappeared since that photo was taken, I do think that Regent Place has been widened to become a proper street instead of just a passage way which it looks like to me, there seems to be...
I wonder if those wooden boards or whatever they are, are still there ?, I cannot recall that part of the road being dug up when they modernise the road, I think its a bus lane these days, what are the chances of it collapsing one day...
Mr Keeping was a Teacher at Burlington Street infants and junior school until summer 1963, I just missed out on having him as my form teacher, thank goodness, he used to spit when he was talking .
Somewhere either in a book, or on the web is another photo of the same view but with more of the brook covered up, and for the love of me I cannot recall where I saw it...its an age thing these days
Where would number 82 Camp Hill be located ?, the address was mentioned in my grandads divorce papers in 1920, along with Shut Lane off Park Street, Never heard of Shut Lane before ..
