    Perry Hall Park

Replaced by the parkeepers hut and the Cafe when I lived in Dewsbury Grove, not really a suitable replacement in my opinion.

Memories : Essence Of The 50s And 60s

My Mother cooked me Breast of lamb once a week with boiled potatoes cabbage and onion sauce, still my favourite but my Wife, also my Sister at the time, hated it. Cheap meal in the sixties but not nowadays.

    Perry Barr Lakes

The photo states that it was the moat which I imagine became the place where the paddle boats used to be in Perry Hall, I don't remember there being a moat at Perry Barr park.

    Perry Barr Mills

Never saw a Windmill either and I lived and played there for 25 years. The photo of the Lady walking the dog could have been Perry Hall before any housing was built in Perry Avenue/Walsall road, this would have left a clear view of the Church. The Lake in Perry Barr park was a large lake and...

    Perry Village

I was born 7 years after this photo off Perry avenue, Dewsbury Grove, looks like Perry avenue was just a building site in those days as our house wasn't built until 1939.

    Perry Common British Legion_college Road

Pretty sure it looked like that mid sixties when I played Bingo there, one and only time I might add.

    Old street pics..

Presume the cable system was similar to San Francisco's cable cars where the driver is called the brake man.

Peaky Blinders - A world away from Downton!

I can remember back in the early sixties one of our ex forces neighbours having a row in their back garden, my Mother was disgusted by their language but, as I had started working at a garage in town a few weeks before, it was the norm for me. One thing I never did was swear at home or in front...

    Lorry Driver Shortage

I started my career as a trainee mechanic on cars and commercials at a garage in Ryland st in 1960. As you say a different world to today's but the stress drivers must be under with tacho's and timed deliveries as opposed to log books and 28 mph top speeds for many hgvs must just be as bad. I...

    Andy's Coaches

At least 1970 as H was a 1970 reg. The coach doesn't look new so probably nearer the mid seventies I would imagine

Home Guard Stationed At Perry Park

Not sure about Perry Barr Park but the guns etc were also based at Perry Hall playing fields. My Mother would tell of the Shrapnel landing on the roof of our house in Dewsbury grove also the damage done to the roof tiles.

    Buses And Coaches.

Alan we moved to Torquay in 2004 then returned to Cornwall in 2009. I seem to remember the 85 direct to Exeter stopped in 2009. We used it a few times as it was far cheaper than using the car also far less hastle.

    Buses And Coaches.

Used to be the 85 when we lived in Torquay. Really handy for us as we lived on the Babbacombe road and the bus stop was outside our house. The route was then split in two when the new distance regulations came in and you had to change buses at Dawlish.

    Transport Companies in Birmingham.

Probably had a damaged front panel and changed for a spare from a Hippo. Other opinions from other forums are that a second front axle was added or spare Hippo badge fitted. I bet there was a Hippo running round with Octopus on the front panel.

    Elan Express Castle Vale

Can't help re Elan express but we used to refuel the Merchantman aircraft at Manchester Airport, these aircraft did the nightly mail flights, I think, as they were the only quiet aircraft allowed to take off after midnight.

    Birmingham Midwives

We shared our house in Perry Barr with a midwife also in the late forties and fifties. She was a great friend of ours and became a major part of our family. I remember we had our own phone, unusual for private houses in our area also the blue light above the front door. She covered the perry...
