    BROWNE'S GREEN SCHOOL

Is this the same building in the old picture? Still standing, opposite the end of Friary Road where I used to live so I know it well

    Station Street Birmingham

I thought it was Alex's too, there was definitely a pie stand there!

    Rebecca's, Severn Street

I remember Rebecca's well, my friend and I used to go there frequently in the late 60s/early 70s. Great place for meeting up with other friends and good live bands. I seem to recall reading that part of the building was a warehouse originally - possibly for sugar?

    1911 Census: 'feeble-minded'

I guess the old fashioned term 'feeble minded' could cover a variety of things, people weren't meaning to be rude they just wouldn't know any other words to describe it. The information about various conditions just wasn't available to the general public in years gone by. I remember my Nan would...

    RIP OZZY OSBOURNE

Copied from another Forum, I can't read the full article without having subscribed to the New York Times. The certificate says Osbourne died of “(a) Out of hospital cardiac arrest (b) Acute myocardial infarction (c) Coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction...

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

I wonder! On the map you posted of Station Street in 1887 (post #92) I see there is another hotel further along on the corner with Dudley Street, what would that one have been?

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

I'd like a look in there! I wonder if the old building is still used for anything - storage maybe?

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

As far as I remember (from the 60s) there has been nothing else built on the site - maybe someone else can confirm?

    Birmingham Post & Mail

That's just reminded me that my Mom worked in that department for a while! They were given a template of where the ball should be to place over each entry and I think they then put those very close to one side so someone else would then do a finer check to decide the winners!

The Crown Hotel The General Elliott "Cutlers" Station Street.

That vacant plot at the side of the Crown is where Alex's Pie Stand used to be in the 60s. Yes, it would be interesting to see what was there originally.

    John Bright Street

Thanks, I can see that in the sign on the old shop now - Frederick's!

    John Bright Street

There is some writing on the lower part of the building to the left but I can’t quite read it! I guess the position was the corner of John Bright Street at the end of Lower Severn Street, I think the damaged building on the right must have been repaired as it looks very similar to today's view..

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Only making a guess here - the clothes look like from the 1940s? Also, it looks like the Market Hall is without the roof and the windows are bricked up so maybe after WW2?
