    Old Birmingham Repertory Theatre

I've been on the stage at the Old Rep! There used to be evenings classes upstairs in the studios and I went to a Mime class, we put on a little show at the end of term and performed to a small audience.

    Bingley Hall

Interesting, it says that there was a fire in 1984 and the Hall was subsequently demolished although the NEC had already been opened by then. I can't say I remember the fire, that sort of thing happening to old buildings makes me slightly suspicious but, in this case, I guess being demolished...

    Snow Hill Station

Yes, it's the same with any area that's had a petrol station on it but I think maybe that's just 7 years?

Again - great set of photos! It's surprising the amount of spare ground that we can't normally see around the area, another world really.

I remember that shop, it was quite an open area at the back  I never saw anything but was aware it went on. I guess they were doing it to ensure it was Halal as required in the Muslim religion.

Wow .... amazing piece of engineering! I wonder how much was spent on that though? I really hope the whole HS2 construction is going to have long term benefits?!

    William Street City Centre

There were back houses in William Street Lozells, the family of a friend of mine at senior school lived in one, four houses that you got to through an entry. Perhaps that wasn't the case in the whole road?

    Hamstead Road Handsworth

Yes it must have been at some time, we lived in the area from the late 60s and the school looked the same then so the old building would have gone before that.

    Hamstead Road Handsworth

Yes, there is still a school in Hamstead Road, on the other side of the road to the church and a little higher up..

Brummies who moved to the USA

Slightly off topic geographically but one of my mother's cousins emigrated to Canada in the 50s and enjoyed a better life than he would have done in the UK, he ran his own business, learned to fly and had his own plane and the family had a holiday place in Florida.

    Groups We Have Seen Live

Hallo Jez, I often look at your FB page and have been aware of the Archive for some years now! I don't live in Birmingham now but I think I have some old memorabilia of the Birmingham music scene somewhere, I'll have a look and let you know what I can find. Anne
