My G Grandfathers brother Thomas Edward Johnson ( 1893-1977) served as a motor mechanic based in France during WW1 attaining the rank of Sergeant by the end of the war. Sometime in the mid 1920's he started his filling station /garage business at 44 Sutton Rd Erdington. (Newspaper reports say...

    Bracebridge Street

Sorry Michael, I don't remember any Skeldings. Apart from the McPhee girls photo which I posted I only vaguely remember Brian Mead as a slightly older boy than me.

I did end up making the trip to Birmingham with my brother last weekend. No go on the Gravestone I'm afraid but surprisingly the St Thomas Association club did have some references to my great grandfather Leon Harry Johnson 1879-1935 on the clubs wall.

As a kid I remember Uncles in the family when referring to their parents as "The old man" or "The old lady" although it was always Mom & Dad to their faces. I don't remember my Aunts using these terms either.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Was it actually made from Chestnut wood? When we played football in the back garden in Erdington mom would say "Dont break the pailins!" (which did happen at times.)

    Bull Ring 1960s - 1980s

I remember as newlywed 20 year old's in 1976 standing in the large crowd in front of the crockery stand in the rag market. " I'm not asking £25 or even £15" shouts the salesman as he smacks the tea chest with the edge of a plate. We eventually got our first 35 piece dinner service for £7 ! We...

Thanks Janice, Always good to have as a future reference. As far as being damaged, I suppose a possibility. Or the family had the stone moved elsewhere?

Thanks for this Janice, it was worth a download. There were some Johnson's listed unfortunately not mine.

Not personally Lyn, a crumbling spine has given me mobility issues. My able bodied kid brother will be visiting later this month, I just need to give him a location ( assuming the gravestone exists at all ).

Just a shame that the piece wasn't a little more about her rather than the men in her life, sign of the times I suppose. I see that St Thomas Association still has a presence on Station Rd. I do know from other newspaper articles the family were heavily involved with the club. My brother will...
