Christmas Traditions – What Were Yours Growing Up?

These are three Christmas films, that I will happily watch over and over again:

    Happy Birthday Astoness (Lyn)

    Sorry I'm a day late.

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

Yes Dave. Perry Barr won't be the same without the track, I passed it after yesterday's game last night and there are just piles of rubble now. So easy to destroy for those that have no interest in sport and would rather build yet more flats, where once speedway and greyhounds brought the crowds...

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

I did Dave and appreciated it, unfortunately I didn't see it before posting myself.

    Speedway. Perry Barr.

Perhaps that's why they were in such a hurry to knock it down Lyn? ;)

Graham Warren or Arthur Payne perhaps?

massive hike on cost of probate records

At least they kept the rise to the current inflation rate....not . It looks to me like they are going through everything with a fine-tooth comb, in an attempt to find some way to get some more money into the government's coffers and they couldn't wait until the budget to announce this...

    Buildings at risk

This was on BBC Midlands News last night. It's good that these issues are being brought out into the open, sadly the Council's spokeswoman's comments suggest they have little or no interest in the upkeep of these buildings, when they have other irons in their fire, that they would rather...

    Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium

There are two other threads "Speedway Perry Barr" and "Planned housing village at Perry Barr", that contain details about the site at Perry Barr, that may help clarify things for you Richard.

    High Street Erdington

If they do discard them Mike, I do hope they will give those that might appreciate them, the opportunity to give them a good home. That said, they really shouldn't be just be discarding them in any case, they are not their own to decide to be rid of, they belong to the Council Tax/Ratepayers of...

    High Street Erdington

I have used Erdington, Sutton, Streetly and the Central libraries. They are a great way for everyone to be able to read such a wide range of books, without buying them, particularly for those without the means to fund such frequent purchases at the time of borrowing. The libraries also have...

Birmingham Central Library Ratcliff Place 1882 - 1974

    From the Geoff Thompson Collection:

Birmingham Central Library. What do you think?

I also liked going up to the top floor when I was at school and reading the original copies of the old newspapers that were kept in large binders, before they were later transferred to microfilm.

    High Street Erdington

The library was built in 1906-07.

Christmas Traditions – What Were Yours Growing Up?

Turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, peas and carrots, with Christmas pudding & cream to follow. With a glass or two of wine, to help it go down... ;)

Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales dies aged 93

Together for 61 years and now reunited:

It didn't take them long did it?

    The Gunmakers Arms, Bath Street

Amazing that it was up for sale for as little as £80,000. Nice it's been kept open, hopefully when they eventually stop knocking everything down in the area and digging up the surrounding roads, there will be enough business for "The Pike & Musket" and The Bull, to both thrive alongside each...

Christmas Traditions – What Were Yours Growing Up?

We had a greengrocery shop that sold Turkeys, Christmas Trees and Christmas Wreaths, so Christmas was a very busy time of year. My Dad was always worried that we would be left with a number of these being left unsold, but he knew what he was doing, when it came to how many of each we would sell...
