    Vincent Kerr

It was Edith Florence Hemming's family I was looking at. Her parents appear to be Ernest Hemming and Elizabeth Steen (died quite young). And I have Ernest's father as Harry Wilson Hemming 1831 - 1916. After being listed in the drapery trade in his early life, he the appears to have had a bit...

    Vincent Kerr

Reviving this thread to wonder if you have looked into (Harry) Vincent Kerr's daughter-in-law's family (Hemming)? Her grandfather appears to be quite interesting (if I have the correct people).

    Vandyke Studios

They were advertising for help wanted in the Bham Mail 1940 & 41. Those are the only 2 years that have come up. Address given was 7 High St.

    Rogers family Tree

Can't see a marriage for an Alfred Rogers to an Annie Farmer in 1930. The only marriage for an Alfred Rogers in that year reg. Bham is to a Florence A Phillips. The A could be for Annie I suppose. I assume the Chapman family listed at 49 Holte Road in 1939 are related.

    Rogers family Tree

Do you mean the Frank (Francis John) Rogers who married (1918) Rose Shakespeare or his father, also Frank (Francis). Younger Frank appears to have had a brother and a sister - Thomas William and Eliza. Older Frank appears to have the brothers you've mentioned as well as a couple of sisters.

No idea if the above is the Sheila you are interested but she was born in Bham in 1949, daughter of John Bohan (as mentioned) and Julia Brady. She had a brother and 2 sisters - Patricia, Denis & Mary. Lived on Kyotts Lake Lane in the 60s.

St Joseph’s church (nechells) help with the map below ⬇️

Looking again at the column with the 4/70s and 4/80s, are those graves that are listed next to each other or are there gaps between them where other graves could be?

St Joseph’s church (nechells) help with the map below ⬇️

It's difficult to say. It appears that the numbering generally goes up from the bottom left to top right - for graves in section 4 at least. There appear to be other numbers missing. Do the blank squares contain graves? And if so maybe they are unmarked because when the map was made there was...

    Johnson

And as an example of how easy it is to go down the wrong path. Searching the 1851 census for people name Johnson born Woodhouse (same as Thomas) resulted in an Edward. And looking at the 1851 census he turned out to also be a Joiner. A baptism gives his parents as Edward & Martha and on the...

    Johnson

With a common name like Johnson you are probably going to to hit a brick wall earlier unfortunately. Even if you trace the name back to a small village there's always quite a lot of doubt if you find older matches. For the generation before someone like Thomas you are hoping that a cousin...

    Johnson

Marriages or Banns prior to 1837 didn't require a father's name and they've never required the mother's. Sometimes non-conformist marriages (ie non C of E) give father/parents but the above marriage was C of E.

    Shaw Hill School

Do you mean class pictures or picture of the school? If you google picture search 'Shaw Hill School old pictures' then there are a number of results, some quite old and some more modern. Not sure if any of them are from the years you're interested in.

It is also possible that Thomas may have been married before. I can't see the marriage scan to Matilda to see what he was listed as.

    Johnson

Thomas (father) appears to have also been born in Leicestershire (Woodhouse Eaves) and was a joiner. Mother possible Mary Ann Hinman or Inman born in the same place. Married 17 Sep 1830. Probably needs a little more looking at to confirm.

    Johnson

The marriage is on Ancestry. Matilda's father is Edward, Thomas' father was Thomas.

Warstone Cemetery look up - Phoebe and Matilda Hall

I don't think you need to buy a certificate, I think you can get a digital copy which is considerably cheaper.
