    Mystery Advert

There are two other threads on the forum and the late lamented Sospiri posted a photo of an enamel sign which I feel is definitely promising. Thank you to everyone's posts above - marvellous! I can always rely on you.

    Mystery Advert

Just a bit to add to the folorn hope! The question was raised by an artist who is re-creating the postcard. It seems as though it's quite an old one as the lady on the far right has a long dress on. However, it's quite a modern design isn't it. The artist thinks it says Corporation Street under...

    Picture Show at Erdington Library

Hi Dick, will definitely try to get along to see them.

Can anyone identify this mystery advert from Wylde Green station please?

    WR Pashley Ltd.

I had a bright yellow Pashley tricycle in the 1980's. It was extremely heavy and hard to ride uphill. My main problem was the camber on the road and I topped over a couple of times - not good when you have a child on the back!

    Birmingham 1969-73

Not my side of the city but a really detailed record of the area Mike. Well done for recording this before it disappeared. I really like that you have included the maps so that individual houses can be identified. Impressive!

    Photo Help Please

Janice, thanks for the map, it's a really good one as it shows the entrance to the allotments and the footpaths which crossed them. This whole are has now become the Topcroft Estate and where I took the photograph.

    Photo Help Please

Thanks again to everyone for their input. I do feel that this is a fairly old sign but it may have been made just before the introduction of the B23 postcode area as it coincides with the building of this estate (late '60's early 70's) which is over half a century ago. Perhaps the modern signs...

    Photo Help Please

Pedrocut, the name Baldmore Lake appears on quite a few maps of the area and I think some of the land was where the lake was allowed to flood the land to act as fertiliser. It's been some time since I did the research so I will have to do some revising. I had a lot of support from the forum, as...

    Photo Help Please

Thank you photosym, everyone's been really helpful - as usual. I never expected to find an old sign and was thrilled when I saw it. Talking about the sign itself - I am really puzzled as I thought this road was only named 'Baldmore Lake' when the Topcroft Estate was built in the 1960's. The...

Thank you both. A great help.

    Photo Help Please

Is there anyone who can suggest doing something with the background of this photo please? I need to use the road sign for a presentation and I'm doubtful about including someone's house in the picture. Any help gratefully received! Thank you, Penny

    Greyhound, Court Lane

I'm not sure if you're still on the forum Linzee but I'm only six years late in responding. From one of the censuses it states that Rose Cottage was at 387 (it's on the 'odd' side of the road. Yes, Rose Cottage was directly opposite to the Erdington Lodge of the College and it was demolished to...

    Radio

Probably been mentioned before but Archie Andrews and Much Binding in the Marsh have been on Radio 4X this week. Just finished listening to Paul Temple - love the intro music ''Coronation Scot' - dunnarf take me back!

    Sutton Park History

The following picture from 1890 comes courtesy of SCLHRG and, as well as being a very attractive shot of Wyndley Lane, it shows a dog-leg in the road.

Pedro, I'm pretty sure they are one in the same but when the pub changed names I really don't know at this stage. I will have a good look through all my records and see what I can find. Thanks for your input.

SUNBAC Sutton & North Birmingham Automobile Club

I'll definitely get on to that Chris - sounds really good. Thank you. Pedrocut, smashing information, thank you. I'll get back to you both.

Pedro, I think Mr Thrush (sounds like a children's book) probably knew everything! You've certainly given me something to go on, thank you. I wonder where he lived in The Nook? My cousin lives in that road, I'll get her on the case.

    Sutton Park History

Thanks everyone. I think this one will remain a mystery. The 'Dog in the Hole' which once stood at lower Parade was some way away from Wyndley Lane. The Secretary of the History Group has spent some time on this this afternoon but has come to the conclusion that it is referring to Wyndley Lane...

SUNBAC Sutton & North Birmingham Automobile Club

This club appears to have morphed into a motorbike club in later years but in the beginning of the club's existence it seems to have been an car club. Not sure of much about it but would welcome any bits of information please. There seems to have been a rally in Sutton Park in the 1920's but...
