    Hairdressers

A hairdo at Raymond's, Mr Teasy Weazy’s was more of a roleplay experience, an expensive treat, especially if Mr Raymond did it. You did not tell him how you wated it, he told you apparently.

Church in Gilby Road Ladywood in 1979

Lyn that’s a late 50's early 60's Cast in Stitu concrete roof. Known as self-supporting giving a clear open space inside. There is also one on the Co-op in Kingstanding. Very beautify and hellishly expensive to build.

The new Bus Station that never was.

I vaguely remember it. The place looked like it was not really finished off after building it, making it look quite uninviting

    The 1980’s House

A lot of this stuff we ordered via the mail order catalogue, Kays, Littlewoods etc. Some of the fashions then do leave a lot to be desired

    The 1980’s House

I think things went downhill with coloured bathroom suites. We chose light blue which at the time did not look too bad, but my pal had burgundy. Living in a hardwater area his bath quickly developed a lining of irremovable lime scale form the scum off the soap. Toa dd insult to injury there were...

    The 1980’s House

Y es, the 60’s - &0’s style was in my opinion more space aged, even the T V and film industry was big on space age science fiction stuff. Mary Quant did a lot of household design too, I certainly recall the wallpapers and curtains.

    The 1980’s House

I was watching something on another site the other day and it got me thinking of my first house. I bought it in 1979 and with not much money slowly furnished it over the years to come. Looking back at some of the 1980’s styles choices I now think “did I really buy one of those and actually like...

    National Library of Scotland maps

It’s quite an interesting statistic, all those motor traffic related deaths. I too lost a great-grandfather who was hit by a bus on Washwood Heath Road. Strangely I was also aware of this number and how it compares today, less than 10 fatality’s a year. Improvements in car braking system, better...

    Blind Match Seller

I remember him. He would stand by one of the arcades holding his white stick up and boxes or books of matches between his fingers. He would invite you to just take a box and drop the money in a box below. Someone once told me that he knew the sound of the right amount of money dropped and would...
