If James Thomas Williams is listed as a com builder at GEC (General Electric Company) he would have been employed building commutators for electric motors. The commutator is the end part of the rotor or armature that feeds electrical current to the motor windings.

    Birmingham Air Raids

I popped out to the Jewellery Quarter today and noticed this damaged fence on the Thomas Fattorini factory on Regent Street. This damage is a legacy of the WWII Blitz shrapnel damage. There are a few other marks on the fence, but this one a sliced straight through a one inch square wrought iron...

    Gaskell and Chambers

It looks like you have come to the same conclusion as I did Richard. Dalex’s is a brand of equipment and furniture. I suspect it’s a type of faux leather or natural thermoplastic. If I were restoring an item like this, I would try just water and mild detergent first on a small area. They maybe...

I too thought possibly faux leather, maybe Gutta Percha which can be made into a thermo plastic type material. My doubt is how well it fits to the surrounding wood and if it’s a painted on coloured lacquer. Maybe if the original poster could pop a few more images on?

    Gaskell and Chambers

I did think about what materials synthetic or other were available when it was made, I am assuming 1930’s? Also am curious why it had absorbed water and stained. Am I seeing a tiny white fleck pattern on the surface too? If this were my piece, I would think quite carefully about what you want...

    Gaskell and Chambers

Hi and welcome. That’s a nice table but Dalex is a new one to me. I am wondering if Dalex is a brand name for bar equipment and not a material. It did also cross my mind that it may be a type of Formica composite type material. Is it hard or soft, or like plastic or rubber? If it were me, I...
