    Games We Used To Play

There was an older lad over Short Heath Park, Robert who would get in the middle of the cobweb roundabout and would spin us around at an astonishing speed. He did it so fast you would feel the blood drain from your head due to the angular momentum. I can remember almost passing out.

    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

I think a lot of people comment about a golden past that never was. I too recall a lot of litter on the tracks at news Street and lots of other places too in the 60’s. There were constant don’t drop littler campaigns in schools and on TV.

Royal visit in 1955 - but where in Brum ?

It looks like social housing but those archways over the balconies are something I have not seen before. The lampposts are similar to other I have seen in Birmingham, but they look quite tall. There is a lot of new housing around the church now, so maybe its all be demolished and rebuilt.

    Erdington Reservoir And Pumping Station

That’s good news and a win win for you too. Building with a past have an enhanced value and are far better than if taken alone if the temporal, the local and the historical references are missing. We were quite quick of the mark where I live and took the opportunity of forming a conservation...

    Erdington Reservoir And Pumping Station

Thats right Lyn, these were the electric standby pumps mentioned in the thread. As a kid there were always lots of large diameter castiron water mains stored on the site too.

    Erdington Reservoir And Pumping Station

The origional waterworks was a stunning building sadly lost in the 50's. The heritage of the modem water industry is almost entirely absent despite its unarguable relevance to human development, so I hope you will as much as practically possibly conserve the house as it was part of the original...

    1953 Coronation Street Parties

Hello John welcome to Birmingham History Forum. I do recall the pea soupers of the late 50’s early 60’s and how it was impossible to see the other side of the road. Not quite a London smog, but certainly not good for health either. Lots of houses with coal fires and factory’s all belching out...

The chimney on its side looks like a dust cyclone that been removed, they have been around for many years. The sack truck looks 70’s but again been around for many years.
