    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

Mike A lot depends on the number of stops. I know a London Train from Lichfield Trent Valley will get to London quicker than a train from New St. The Lichfield train only stopped once on the way

History of Calthorpe Road B20 3LY

Yes, there has been a lot of experimentation in the construction industry, the Bournville Village Trust has a couple of system built experimental houses, but did ultimately end up sticking to traditional build. I know the council did build a couple of unusual blocks with guttering inside a...

History of Calthorpe Road B20 3LY

There are timber gutters, occasionally used on thatched building. These most likely will be solid walls. Most of the earlier Birmingham social housing was built like this. Cavity walls started to appear around the late 1920 early 30’s. there were some social houses built with cavity walls...

History of Calthorpe Road B20 3LY

Hi and welcome to Birmingham History Forum. Assuming your looking at these houses in the first image. These houses most certainly look by the styling that they were built as a part of the major social house building programmes of the 1920’s. To me the design is looking more modern than the most...

Hi and welcome to the Birmingham History Forum. I don’t hold any memories of the Kings Norton Factory, but have fond memories of the Ludgate Hill Branch. There is a thread here https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/threads/philip-harris.56510/#post-796397 They made some super high quality...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

The Phyllis Nicklin collection was almost binned as having no interest when her filing cabinet was opened. Fortunately, while some images did end up in the bin, a lot were preserved.

I have a memory of that gatehouse having a small gas flame on the wall in the foyer for people to light cigarettes. There was a small sign adjacent to it, but I cannot recall what it said

    Cadbury's Bournville Factory

Richard, I agree entirely with you on quality. I’m on the back foot with Cadburys products now as I don’t eat anything with sugar in (only 100% chocolate), so can only rely on other who say their chocolate is not as good. There does seem to be a common theme that it has alterd for the worse and...

    Cadbury's Bournville Factory

I suspect they are constantly on the look out to reduce production costs and produce down to a cost as opposed to product to a quality. Certainly, cheaper seed oils and other ingredients and additives help drive down cost. With the flavour slowly changing over time not too amny people notice.
