A bit of Birmingham's history now in the USA

Thanks for the phots. So far so good. The hand cut dovetails indicate its possibly pre 1895 and the hardwood draw sides and bottoms indicate its English. American draws tend to be made in popular. That single board wide draw bottom looks great too. Can I ask you for a picture of the underside...

A bit of Birmingham's history now in the USA

If you take that bottom centre draw out and photograph the dovetail joints on the front and back corners, we can get a better guess at its age and authenticity.

Ravenhurst Mansion c1650 and St Anne's Convent

It seems it was a generic term for quite a few chronic conditions, the hospital at Jaffray Hospital in Birmingham was one such place too. Further details here https://historic-hospitals.com/2015/10/07/hospitals-for-incurables-the-former-longmore-hospital-edinburgh/

I can remember Penns Lane Station just like in your photos. I recall they built a Kingdom Hall on part of the site.

Yes, you advance the injection timing and with a bit (quite a lot) of luck it will kick into reverse.

The picture top life showing Mr Humphries is also showing the infamous Bolinder Diesel Engine. I know them well, and you took your life into your own hands when starting a Bolinder Engine up.

Thanks Mark, much appreciated. I am not a regular modeler; I just do the occasional kit that has an underlying interest I would like to study. This one it was really all about the Merlin engine. There used to be one in the Newhall Street science museum that I would admire as a kid with an open...

I think it was around about that yes. It was a schoolgirl call Hazel Hill who calculated the spray pattern and proved that the original gun configuration would not work. Apparently, the Spitfire had to hit an enemy with at least 300 rounds. With the pilot only having a 2 second window to do this...

Airfix are still going strong despite rival company’s making super model kits too. Its seems the model making fraternity like the base kits and then buy and add a load of modifications like photo etched parts of very fine detail. There is also a whole market of high quality paints for model kits...

    Birmingham museum and art gallery.

That’s an incredibly small sample size for something that quite important. It came across to me as 60 pages of well padded out lacklustre more of the same.

    Smiths Systems Co, Birmingham

I watched my dad waste his retirement; he did not want to spend any money. When I retired, I got a dog and built a forever workshop. Never had a dull day since retiring. Its great for this type of work.

Here it is all assembled. It is certainly a utility piece, functional and top quality materials. All the draw fronts and rails are quarter saw oak. As you rightly point out Richard, cleaning and repair is in order of the day. Just seen a label inside, a price tag from an antique dealer in...

I have been given for restoration an interesting piece of office furniture made by Smiths Systems Co Birmingham. As a Birmingham company I am also quite interested in it background, who Smiths Systems Co were, what else did they make and are they still trading. There are already quite a few...
