    Unfortunate business names.

Mate of mine reckons he was rear ended by a Panda Car in Gravelly hill years ago. The officers in the car were Sargeant Skid and Constable Sly.

    Where is this

I remember the Slow Boat, cant say that I really believed the Cat meat story though. If you think about it, a Chicken probably costs a restuarant less than a pound. Or alternatively, they can go to the trouble /risk of catching a cat, skinning it, and dressing it up to look like Chicken. You...

HEATH STREET - Before and After

Could be you'd find the street number of Climax Radio in an old Kellys, or old phone book. I'm pretty sure they were on the corner of Dudley Rd by the late 60s though. iirc the first job interview I ever had was there. Walked all the way from Monument Rd in about 12" of snow and still didnt get...

    Use your loaf

Thats one theory. Another comes from soldiers in I think Napoleonic war, put their hat on their bread ration, held it up on a stick, frenchie sniper fires at it and gives away his position. I prefer the cockney rhyming theory myself tho.

    Dudley Zoo

lack of investment I spose, last time I went there was when my daughter had a day helping the zoo keepers. Makes a great birthday present btw. But the old concrete buildings are in a poor state. When was it built ? I'd guess in the 30s judging by the style of the 'restaurant. I can remember...

    Panda Cars Birmingham

Strange, I ad a feeling it might be, probably the same photo shoot. I remember the 1100s, I wonder if they were lower geared than the standard ones. They had a distinctive whine as if they were always in third, you could hear em coming from miles away.

    Panda Cars Birmingham

If its any help, first Panda Car I remember seeing was in Cattell Rd, definitely the summer of 67, and was an Austin A40. But see this; https://austin-rover.co.uk/index.htm?policeaustinf.htm Which has a pic of an A40 in Erdington in 66

    Kingston Picture House

Said this before, its a shame to see the building in that state though innit, with a tree growing out of the clock.

Anybody else hear that the upstairs room in the sailors return was haunted by a soldier ?

    Kingston Picture House

Used to get in through the exit door at the back by the 5 minute car wash. saw Jason and the Argonauts every night for a week, same with the great escape. Snowed a lot and very cold tha winter (63 I think) so it was somehing to do. I got banned from there as well, for letting a stink bomb off...

    the barrel inn watery lane

Phil, Dont want to seem pedantic but I'm not sure the first pic is Watery La, cant remember there being a hill. It looks more like Coventry Rd corner of Mount Pleasant to me.

    Gangs of Birmingham

I cvould be wrong, but I think 2 'Peakeys' were hung for murdering a policeman in Navigation St. Did read somewhere that it got to be a name for any yobbos at one point, whether they were gang members or not. Bit like calling kids hoodies now I spose.
